The Conservation work at Waimea Valley is done by a small but skilled team of employees, but because we are a non-profit, our team is small compared to the amount of work to be done. We need as many hands as we can get to be involved in caring for this incredible valley and conserving it's many resources, native plants and animals, and the endangered species that call the Valley home. you can find out more on the Waimea website under the volunteers tab (here) or if you have any questions you can email the volunteer coordinator (here.)
The conservation work at Waimea valley happen through our public conservation workdays, exclusive group events and with the help of individual registered volunteers. This request is for the individual volunteers, the other options will be covered in separate posts.
The individual volunteer opportunities are best for someone with a flexible schedule that can dedicate to a long term volunteer commitment. You will need to register with Waimea valley as a volunteer to utilize this option, and once you are registered you will be part of the team and be helping our conservation staff to ensure the survival of the many native and rare and endangered species that call Waimea home.
Currently the conservation team is on a Monday through Thursday schedule. As a volunteer you could come in to match their schedule or come on the days when they are not here and work independently on projects that will be set by the botanical manager. You can come as often as 5 days a week or as rarely as once every couple of weeks. With either an independent or a connected schedule, you will need to be able to work independently on the days when the conservation team can not include volunteers in their workplans.
to join the team as a registered volunteer, check the Waimea Volunteer website: Waimea volunteers
